John Challis, well remembered for his role as Boycie on Only Fools and Horses, died at the age of 79 following a battle with cancer.

After the news emerged on Sunday, his Only Fools and Horses co-stars Sir David Jason and Sue Holderness, as well as other actors, expressed their memories and sympathies.

Ice T, an American rapper who had become friends with Challis on Twitter over the years, was one of the more surprising names among the tributes. The two never met in person.

‘I just learned John died gone,’ the artist stated in a tribute. He managed to make a Twitter buddy.

‘I’m in a bad mood. Despite the fact that I never met him in person… RIP.’ Internet buddies may grow close.

On social media, the comedian often wished Ice T and his family a Merry Christmas, to which the New Jack Hustler star responded.

The American actor’s racier tweets were also welcomed by the British actor. ‘You used to be hard, what happened?’ an admirer tweeted in April. ‘I came…’ Ice T responded. Give me a few minutes…’ Challis replied by drawing a picture of Boycie giggling.

I recently learned that John had died away. He managed to make a Twitter buddy. I’m in a bad mood. Despite the fact that I never met him in person. Friendships formed on the internet may develop into real-life friendships. RIP https://t.co/OubOefVLfr

The TV actor, who was a huge admirer of Ice T’s heavy metal band Body Count, stated his desire to meet up with the rapper in New York in a particularly emotional tweet from earlier this year.

Believe me when I say that your body will tell you when it’s time to slow down. I’m hoping to see you in New York next year.

‘It is with heavy hearts that we offer you such terrible news,’ Challis’ family said in a statement.

‘After a lengthy fight with cancer, our good friend and yours, John Challis, died peacefully in his sleep.

‘He will always be remembered as “Boycie,” and he leaves a lasting legacy of work that will bring joy and smiles to many people for many years to come.

Challis appeared in Only Fools And Horses for 22 years with Sir David and Nicholas Lyndhurst before moving on to feature in The Green Green Grass, a spin-off.
