Who Do You Think You Are? is a British genealogy documentary series that has aired on the BBC since 2004. Each episode follows a celebrity as they explore their family history using archive records and DNA tests, with results surprising them.

The history of the show

The series was created by the production company Wall to Wall, initially for BBC Two. It has aired on BBC One (except for series 5 in 2010 which aired on BBC Two) since its premiere. The show was first broadcast on 20 July 2004. Up until 2011, the programme featured six celebrities taking part each week; however, this increased to seven from the eighth series.

The show has had many different presenters and actors take part as celebrities, such as: Vanessa Redgrave, Ruby Wax, Stephen Fry, Steve Coogan (no relation to the character), Alan Davies , Davina McCall, Martin Lewis and Jerry Springer. Currently nine series have been made; the latest started on 29 August 2012.
