The fantasy hockey season has begun, and more than ever there are countless online tools to help you win your league. We take a look at the top ten most popular ones on industry leader Yahoo! Sports.
The “fantasy hockey 2020-21” is a website that provides statistics and predictions for the upcoming season. It also includes a live chat where users can interact with other members.
Coaches may brag about their players impressing them all they want, but the buck ends with how much ice time is given out.
We’re comparing average ice time from Oct. 22, when most teams had played three to five games, to today, when most teams have played eight to 11 games, to attempt to find any players who have pleased their coaches early on.

We can then look at some of the players who have had the highest increases in average ice time to see who coaches have been most pleased with.
Arizona Coyotes’ Dysin Mayo: Disclaimer: Prior to Oct. 22, Mayo had only appeared in one game, averaging just 15 minutes per game. But he’s settled in as Jakob Chychrun’s defensive partner since then, and he’s putting up fantasy-worthy numbers. He just has one score, but with seven shots, 15 blocked shots, and six hits in five games, he averages 2.2 fantasy points per game (FPPG).
Evgeny Svechnikov, W, Winnipeg Jets: Svechnikov had just 8:40 of ice time in his first three games with his new team (after multiple injury-plagued seasons as a Red Wings prospect). However, the Jets had to find new line combinations due to the absences of Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, and Andrei’s brother has found a decent one. With Scheifele and Wheeler back in the mix, he’s now averaging more than 12:21 owing to a scoring-line role with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Kyle Connor that has remained intact.
Troy Anaheim Ducks’ Terry, W: Terry’s average ice time has increased by almost three minutes since October 22 courtesy to a hot stick. Since the second game of the season, he has scored in every game and is averaging 2.5 points per game. For both the veteran and the 24-year-old Terry, a good bond with Ryan Getzlaf is paying off. Terry has played 117 of his 128 minutes of total ice time at five-on-five with Getzlaf on the ice. Due to injuries and problems by the Ducks’ presumed offensive leaders (Trevor Zegras, Rickard Rakell, and Max Comtois) this season, the Terry-Getzlaf tandem has risen to the top of the depth chart.
Bowen Colorado Avalanche, D. Byram: The fact that the Avalanche possessed two blue-chip defense prospects was lost in the storyline owing to Cale Makar’s breakthrough season last season. From the blue line, Byram is reminding everyone that Makar does not have a monopoly on this team’s offensive. From 18:15 per game on Oct. 22 to 20:55 presently, his ice time has increased. He leads the squad in defensive scoring with 2.1 FPPG, which is more than Makar’s 1.8. Despite the fact that he’s been receiving second opportunities on the power play, he’s been struggling. With Makar out this week due to injury, Byram showed what he can do, scoring two goals and adding an assist on Wednesday.
Florida Panthers’ Anthony Duclair (W): For the first few of games of the season, Duclair was not among the Panthers’ top six, averaging barely 11 minutes of ice time per game. His current average is 13:37, as he has established himself as a reliable winger for Aleksander Barkov. In that time, Duclair has scored six goals and is averaging 1.9 points per game. His fantasy points per 60 minutes, though, are incredible at 8.47, matching the likes of Steven Stamkos and Nathan MacKinnon.
Edmonton Oilers’ Evan Bouchard, D: Bouchard, a growing asset for the Oilers, has increased his responsibilities via balanced play. His 18 blocked shots and 22 shots on goal have helped him retain a 2.1 FPPG, which puts him slightly below Darnell Nurse but ahead of Tyson Barrie as the Oilers’ second-best defender. His minutes have now increased from 19:15 on October 22 to 21:39.

This week, be careful to examine your roster’s schedule since it’s a feast or famine situation. Thirteen teams play four games in a row, however five teams only play twice, and the New York Islanders only play once.
In addition, the forecaster chart now incorporates a complete plate of facts to calculate the week’s ratings. The computations are no longer reinforced by data from the previous season now that three weeks have gone since the season began. As a result, everything you see today is solely based on the results of this campaign.

With specifics on why Sergei Bobrovsky exited Thursday’s game scarce, you’ll want to have Spencer Knight on hand for the Panthers’ four-game schedule next week. Sam Reinhart, who has taken over for Sam Bennett on Jonathan Huberdeau’s line, is in the similar boat. Before locking them both in on Monday, be sure to check on the newest injury news. Regardless of any injury news, Anton Lundell is another alternative. He just returned from one on Thursday, and despite not scoring, he’s still averaging 2.1 FPPG after six games this season.

Boston Bruins: The Bruins have resurrected their power play just in time for a four-game week that includes Ottawa, New Jersey, and Montreal. With the exception of a good week from the usual suspects, you may start Charlie Coyle and Craig Smith from the second line. Despite Jeremy Swayman’s outstanding performance against the Red Wings on Thursday, Linus Ullmark remains the starter in goal.
Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens’ four-game week features games against some of the team’s penalty-killing woes thus far. In terms of preventing power-play goals, the Bruins (19th), Red Wings (27th), and Kings (30th) are at the bottom of the league. That’s intriguing since the Habs’ top unit has fantasy goods available. Mike Hoffman has been named the team’s fourth forward and is still available in one-third of ESPN leagues. Chris Wideman, on the other hand, should be available in practically any league. I won’t defend him beyond this week, but Wideman has been getting more and more power-play time for the Canadiens over the last three games, pushing Petry away. Petry shouldn’t be in lineups right now with two points and no special teams experience in 12 games. Wideman, on the other hand, is a viable alternative for this promising schedule.
Notes from the players
Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens is a goaltender. Price is available in more than half of ESPN leagues, so you’re taking a gamble. Price is worth a try now that he is anticipated back with the team “soon,” and Jake Allen isn’t stepping up in his absence. This is particularly true if your fantasy team’s goaltending has been an issue so far. Keep an eye on Price and see what happens. What you do from there will depend on whether you get Price in the regular season or the playoffs in 2020-21, but it’s better to have him on the bench to find out.

Nashville Predators’ Eeli Tolvanen (W): With the news that Filip Forsberg is out for the season, the Predators will have to depend on Tolvanen even more than they have thus far. Last season, he was their best fantasy forward not named Forsberg, but because to the revival of Matt Duchene and Ryan Johansen, he has been overlooked this season. Tolvanen, on the other hand, has an opportunity to recover his stride now that Forsberg is on the mend.
New Jersey Devils’ Ty Smith, D: With Dougie Hamilton classified as day-to-day, Smith is in position to take over power-play responsibilities. If we learn that Hamilton will be out next week, Smith will have a four-game schedule to work with.
Barclay Goodrow, W, New York Rangers: In a recent Rangers shakeup, Goodrow was maintained on the top line over Alexis Lafreniere. It’s a wonderful idea to play alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider to grab some additional points. Goodrow has a solid hitting foundation, so the major role has the ability to keep him fantasy relevant for as long as he keeps it.
Hits that happen quickly

Only in dynasty and keeper leagues should you consider getting Jack Eichel. We’ll have to reassess this as April approaches, but early estimates (which are obviously estimates, given that this is a novel operation for the NHL) put his recovery time at five months. In fact, make a note on your calendar for March 1 to examine if Eichel has any fantasy value for the season’s final stretch.

To begin this post, we looked at ice time improvements, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Alex Barre-Boulet was among them if we did it again in a month. Following the injury to Nikita Kucherov, Barre-Boulet has been thrown into a scoring-line position with the Tampa Bay Lightning. So far, the results have been underwhelming, but he has three points in five games since his return to the club.

The offense of the Toronto Maple Leafs has begun to click. We didn’t get the lines we wanted, but that’s OK. On a line with John Tavares and Mitch Marner, Alexander Kerfoot is a fantasy possibility, while Michael Bunting is a fantasy option on a line with Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
